No time to read?

How can it be possible that I am a librarian, yet I don't have any free time to read for myself?!!  The past two weeks have been way too busy.  My friend Valarie passed her copy of the last book in the Millineum trilogy to me, but I have had no time to even open it to start the first chapter!  I hate when life gets so crazy that things I love doing get put on the back burner.  Thankfully, my college course will be finishing soon, and then it will be vacation time; I have a big plan of reading lots and lots of books while sitting on the beach in Rio....I can't wait until December 17th!  Here's a sneak peak (from Amazon.com reveiws) at the last book, which I plan to begin this week.... or some time!

Amazon Best Books of the Month, May 2010 As the finale to Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest is not content to merely match the adrenaline-charged pace that made international bestsellers out of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire. Instead, it roars with an explosive storyline that blows the doors off the series and announces that the very best has been saved for last. A familiar evil lies in wait for Lisbeth Salander, but this time, she must do more than confront the miscreants of her past; she must destroy them. Much to her chagrin, survival requires her to place a great deal of faith in journalist Mikael Blomkvist and trust his judgment when the stakes are highest. To reveal more of the plot would be criminal, as Larsson's mastery of the unexpected is why millions have fallen hard for his work. But rest assured that the odds are again stacked, the challenges personal, and the action fraught with neck-snapping revelations in this snarling conclusion to a thrilling triad. This closing chapter to The Girl's pursuit of justice is guaranteed to leave readers both satisfied and saddened once the final page has been turned. --Dave Callanan

The saga continues!

So I finally finished "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and I loved it!  Once I got past the halfway mark the book really started picking up the pace, action-wise, and I flew through the last chapters.   The best part was knowing that there are two more in the trilogy, so it wasn't like I was done with the book; I have the others to look forward to.  And Larsson really left a lot of questions unanswered from the first book, so I can hardly wait to find out what happens in the next one....which I came into school on Sunday to get from my office!  I didn't realize I was going to finish the first one, so had not brought the second one home with me over the weekend - bad move.  I just could not wait to start reading "The Girl who Played with Fire" and from the very first pages, this one has gotten me hooked..  Probably the best part of all is that I don't have to wait to read book three (we don't have it here in the SCCS library yet) because I've found another teacher who has the hardback!  She's going to let me borrow it when I am ready - probalby very soon...

Happy Monday and Happy Reading!

Distractions...

Well, last week I was really into the book "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and I thought I'd read the whole thing over the weekend.  But sometimes, life gets in the way....needless to say, I did not finish that book like I had planned.  In fact, I only just got to Part 2!  It's a long book, at about 600 pages, but I am hoping to get some reading in this weekend.  What happend? you might ask....another book happened!  A student told me about the book she just read, "The Adoration of Jenna Fox" so I picked it up during FLEX time and got hooked!  I took it home over last weekend and read the whole thing in two days....yes, it was a much shorter book, so that made the reading go faster.  What I really liked, though, was how interesting the plot was, from beginning to end.  Not to spoil it, but the idea is that Jenna wakes up after being in a coma for 18 months and she doesn't remember anything.  But then she starts to remember, and learns that her parents went to great lengths to keep her alive.  If you like a bit of futuristic science with your reading, then this would be a good book for you.  Happy Reading and I hope too much life doesn't get in the way...

A new series

There's a new series here at the library and I have just started reading book #1.  The book's title is "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and the author is Stieg Larsson.  There are three novels, and it's being called the "Millennium Trilogy" by the international press.  This first book is very good so far; I've only read 75 pages, but hope to finish most of it this weekend.  The reason I am so excited aobu this series is that all three books have been international bestsellers and now there is talk of making them into a movie, or several movies.  Very cool.  I like when good books are made into movies; it's cool to see which one is better.  Another cool thing is that the author died before the first book was published, so that adds to the mystery of the novels.  He was a writer from Sweden, and the books have all been translated into English.  I love when books come in a series, especially if they are good, because it makes me want to keep reading!

Book reviews and more!

I love books and reading, so it makes sense that I would want to share that love with others!  One of the best parts of my new job as SCCS Librarian is getting to talk about some of my favorite books with students... nothing is better than seeing a kid come through the door sayiing that they "LOVED" the book I recommended and can I please give them another just like it?  I'd also like students to share their book recommendations with me, so hopefully I will find some new, awesome books to read.  Let's get reading!
